GSCP 2008-2009

Welcome to the consultation process on the GSCP draft audit reference tools!

GSCP is a business-driven programme for companies which want to harmonise their respective efforts in order to deliver a shared, global and sustainable approach for the continuous improvement of working conditions in global supply chains.

To this effect, the Global Social Compliance Programme is developing a set of reference tools and processes that describe best practices (based on the relevant international standards) and provide a common interpretation of fair labour requirements and their implementation.

These reference tools, which will be openly available, can then voluntarily be either:
          - Integrated in part or in full by companies into their existing system
          - Or used by companies or initiatives as a reference against which to compare their existing tools

This approach has been designed to provide a framework to build comparability and transparency between existing systems. This will allow for more consistency and will facilitate the mutual recognition of audit results and processes. The Programme is not a substitute to existing tools and processes.

Launched in August 2008, the consultation process focuses on a set of draft guidelines for audit reference tools, prepared by the GSCP Expert Working Group on Audit Systems and Methodology. The Group’s work builds on the 2nd step of the GSCP working plan, aimed at identifying best practices in auditing processes and practices at production sites.

At the end of this consultation process (15 December 2008), the Expert Working Group will review and analyse all contributions received, in order to release revised and improved draft guidelines. The revised guidelines will be passed on to the GSCP Advisory and Executive Boards for final consideration.

On behalf of the whole GSCP community, thank you very much in advance for contributing to this collaborative effort!
